Read Aloud

One of the richest parts of our homeschool has been our read-aloud time together. Over the years, we have especially enjoyed the literature selections recommended by Simply Charlotte Mason. Their book lists have introduced our family to many beautiful stories that have become lasting memories within our home.

Read-aloud time has a way of gathering everyone together, regardless of age. Even very young children often absorb far more than we realize simply by listening nearby while older siblings enjoy the stories.

Of course, homeschool life moves through many different seasons. There are seasons filled with new babies, pregnancies, sickness, travel, or simply very full days. During busier seasons, we often choose to listen to audiobooks during lunchtime rather than reading aloud ourselves. This simple adjustment has allowed us to continue enjoying beautiful literature even when life feels especially full.

I have found that consistency matters far more than perfection. Whether we are gathered on the couch with physical books or listening quietly together during lunch, these shared stories slowly shape the atmosphere of our home and become part of our family culture.
